Chanakya University to focus on Indian knowledge systems under NEP – The New Indian Express

BENGALURU: Chanakya University, which has already earned a reputation for its plans to adhere to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with emphasis on Indian knowledge systems, is set to be officially launched here on Saturday evening.

It will be launched by world-renowned mathematician and Padma Laureate Bhushan Manjul Bhargava, alongside Karnataka Minister of Higher Education, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Padma Shri Laureate and Infosys Foundation Founder, Dr Sudha Murty, and the founding chairman of Jindal Aluminum, Dr. Sitaram Jindal.
The inauguration will be chaired by Dr. K Kasturangan, Chairman of the NEP 2020 Editorial Board and former President of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Yashavantha Dongre, said the university expects to enroll up to 1,300 students in the next academic year. “We have established the university with the help of renowned experts and hope to take education to a new level. Classes will also include skills important for the modern age, including those related to communication, digital skills, moral education and research,” he said.

University spokespersons have also said that the courses and curricula are formulated to give prominence to Indian knowledge systems, especially under the NEP.

The university has a close connection to the NEP with one of the central policy committee members, Prof. MK Sridhar, heading the university as chancellor and one of its founders.

Its international advisory board is also made up of prominent NEP personalities, including Dr. Kasturangan. Other members include several renowned personalities from multidisciplinary fields, such as former University Grants Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Bhushan Patwardhan, Biocon Founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, former Founder-Director from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Professor S Sadagopal, the co-director of the Center for Film and Drama. founder Prakash Belawadi and Indic Academy founder Hari Kiran Vadlamani.
