Launch of the end-of-life and palliative care education and training framework

April 29, 2022

The End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework is a new resource for all healthcare professionals, staff and organizations caring for people with end-of-life and palliative care needs. .

The framework is designed to improve the delivery of high-quality end-of-life and palliative care by enabling users to identify gaps in their knowledge and guide learning. It supports education and training by:

  • guide the identification of current knowledge, skills and experience
  • clarify future education and training needs
  • guide the acquisition and/or development of the required education and training.

The three domains of the framework reflect the basic knowledge and skills (learning elements) considered integral to the provision of high quality end-of-life and palliative care.

The learning elements at each level are progressive, and some of the learning elements are integral to all health care, but are applied within this framework in the context of end-of-life and palliative care.

It is essential that all healthcare professionals, staff and organizations are equipped to support end-of-life and palliative care patients. High quality holistic care requires a wide range of services and palliative care is no exception.

WA Health and the End-of-Life Care Program are committed to improving the delivery of end-of-life and palliative care across the state to meet the needs of our population.
