Muscat: In line with its efforts to place the Sultanate among the top 20 countries in the Global Innovation Index, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic, the Islamic window of Sohar International, recently participated as a sponsor of gold at the 3rd Oman Science Festival which was inaugurated by HE Ing. Saeed Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. Attended by HE Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, the national-level event, organized by the Ministry of Education, is being held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center from October 10-15 2022 with the central theme ‘We will meet again with science’. The bank’s participation in the event is in line with the memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Education earlier in June, thus reaffirming its commitment to creating a knowledge-based economy and to promote a culture of creative thinking in the community.
Commenting on the exhibit, Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, Managing Director of Sohar International, said, “Oman Vision 2040 has a strong focus on quality education. Adopting a holistic approach to generate more awareness, interest and a positive trend in science, innovation and research, the festival had more than 70 science corners with 452 activities in different fields. It included an exhibition, a theatre, interactive scientific workshops and various competitions. Playing an active role in the exhibition, Sohar International, through the Sohar Academy, also organized an educational session on the theme “Junior Investor” for the visitors of the festival. The installation of the booth by Sohar International and Sohar Islamic attracted a large number of students allowing bank employees to interact and network with Omani students and educate them on savings accounts and mobile banking application .
The festival also aims to encourage Omani students to develop a scientific mind and keep pace with global technology trends. The 2nd edition of the Oman Science Festival held in 2019 featured around 300 events and activities with over 1,000 students participating in programming and robotics competitions, hackathons, drone competitions as well as science presentations.
